I am wanting to film something, somewhat of a short film, but need some advice. What is a good digital camcorder to get? I want it under $1000, also, what is some good editing software and what will I need on my computer to make it all come together. Please let me know.
Sincerly,

Hi,
Okay, $1000 is about 750UKP. For that you can probably get a small DV camera, the ideal first camera and high enough quality for a short. Keep in mind that even though cameras around this price will only have 1CCD (not 3) that, yes, the picture quality will be less that a more expensive cam but it can still produce results worthy of any festival. People are still making movies on 8mm so small digital cameras, if used correctly, can produce great results.
One thing to make sure about is that the camera has a mic socket onboard, so you can use a external mic improving the sound.
In terms of editing, it's a wide world of choice out there depending on your system and budget. The cheapest offer over here (UK) is the StudioDV which offers DV in and out and bundled software for under 100UKP. A fairly high spec PC is still required.
If you have a iMac, you don't need to worry as it comes out of the box being able to edit. Anyway.... I'm sure i've confused you enough now... Best of luck...
BTW: I made a short film (90 seconds) with a Sony TRV900 and an iMac. The website is at www.mashmedia.ltd.uk/357

Thank you so much, I follow you, and I appriciate it greatly. I did some reasearch, and I found a Sony TRV 120 at the local Sears (That way I can put it on my Sears card, hehehe) for only $599.88, which to me, seems quite reasonable, but, my question is this to you, would THAT suffice for a beginner camcorder? Thanks alot, I look forward to hearing from you again buddy!
Sincerly,
Brent
